The Body of Benchers and the Council of Legal Education provide for the dress code for Call to Bar ceremony. This includes the use of hijab by the female Muslims during Call to Nigerian Bar.
Every successful aspirant to the bar must comply with this dress code before he will be allowed to enter the Call to Bar hall.
The day is always stressful, to avoid most of the inconveniences of the day, here are some useful guides on the compliance with the dress code to make you free from the hassle of the day.
The Use of Hijab During Call to Bar
The Body of Benchers approves the use of the hijab during the Call to Bar ceremony.The rule is of the effect that Muslim ladies who wish to wear the Hijab during the call to Bar should ensure that their faces, including their ears, are not covered.
The Rule provides: “During the exercise, all your facial features, including your ears, must be exposed for capturing."
Dress code for Ladies
Ladies are required to put on a black skirt suit with a white Camisole/dress, black shoes, collarette, wig, and gown.Therefore, the dress will comprise of the following;
- wear a black suit that is below knee-length, or a black dress that is arms-length ( no cleavage), better still, just wear a simple skirt suit, note; the skirt suit or dress should have any flashy prints, designs, or embellishments, to avoid being disturbed.
- If you wear a black suit, you will equally put on a white camisole. then tuck your collarette into the camisole, and button up the jacket.
- put on simple stud earrings; stick to simple jewelry, avoid bangles and bracelets, because you
- wear flats shoes or simple black court shoes. Avoid wearing suede shoes or high heeled shoes.
- pack your hair nicely; only natural hair is allowed; no attachment, weaving or extensions, etc.
- You are not permitted to carry your bag into the call to the bar hall.
Men dress code
Men are required to wear a black suit with a white tunic shirt, black shoes and black socks, wig, and gown, collar, bib, and stud.Therefore, men are to dress as follows;
- Wear a plain black suit with a plain white and stripeless tunic shirt. You advised not to wear barrister jacket or silk blue trousers
- Have a clean haircut, avoid crazy hairstyle and hair spray.
- Avoid putting on inappropriate jewelry.
- Wear black leather shoes and black socks.
Important Notice

- Come early to the venue,
- Remember to come along with your Nigerian Law School Identity Card
- You may decide to eat before coming because it is used to be a long day.
- You are not permitted to carry your handbag into the call to Bar hall.
- There is always traffic and overcrowding, arrange how to locate your guests;
